Furnished from the Fallen is a new creative outlet from Hunter White featuring nature art and woodworking creations from rainy side of Mount Hood in Oregon. Hunter is a musician, habitat restoration engineer, and burgeoning artist and woodworker originally from the flatlands of Indiana. After living in Portland, Oregon for nearly two decades, it was time to shift gears and find a home surrounded by nature. After trying out a few more locations around the Pacific Northwest, Hunter, his wife, and three dogs found the perfect place to land: a secluded Mount Hood property surrounded by big trees, moss, and mushrooms.

For the past three years, he’s been settling into the mountain life including chopping firewood, chainsaw milling lumber, and observing the beauty and patterns hidden in the surrounding natural world. What started as a necessity to clear away fallen trees after an ice storm, has developed into a new passion for woodworking, chainsaw milling, and combining woodworking and printmaking techniques to create tree ring relief prints. Hunter also has a strong personal and professional connection to the Oregon Coast and has collected and printed coastal tree samples including the ancient preserved cedar and spruce trees excavated from the Siuslaw River floodplain restoration site.

Here, for now, you’ll primarily find Tree Prints: relief prints made from slices of fallen trees, revealing the hidden patterns and stories told in the growth rings. Through a process of selecting the tree and specific cross-cut slice, preparing the wood to bring out the patterns and textures, and hand-printing with a range of ink color combinations and natural fiber papers; Hunter’s tree prints bridge the gap between archival of the tree’s life story told in tree rings and abstract artistic interpretations of the exposed features.

Most prints listed here for sale are immediately available to ship, and others will be reprinted upon order (as noted on items in the Shop). Generally allow for 2-3 weeks to receive a print to allow for printing, drying, and shipping time.

Woodworking creations may also be found here from time to time, including furniture and hand-made wooden frames. Custom framing of tree prints is available upon request. Please coordinate details prior to ordering framed prints including wood species, finishes, glass options and associated timing and costs.
